Betsy DeVos’ Long and Outstanding Philanthropic Works

Betsy Devos has channeled millions of dollars through a charitable cause that she started with her husband Dick Devos back in 1989. Betsy has been an avid Republican Party supporter, securing a few elective posts in her career in party nominations and committee leadership. Her philanthropy is mostly centered on deep Christian beliefs as well as conservative political views. Betsy and Dick Devos have given more than $100 million to various courses in the education sector, christian missions, arts, and research organizations. The Devos Foundation has shown support to Success Academy Charter Schools by giving it $150,000 in 2015, with a pledge of a further $150,000. The DeVos family foundation (The Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation) also funded GreatSchools, a U.S. nonprofit school management corporation.

Betsy DeVos sits on the AEI Public Policy board. In 2015 she donated $750,000 to the think tank – and further approved $1 million for its future funding. The DeVos’ foundation also gave $10,000 to a nonprofit libertarian law firm (Institute for Justice) that finances school choice lawsuits all over the country. The arts management institute from Maryland University-College Park Foundation received $500,000 from the couple. The School of Missionary Aviation Technology, offering undergrad certificates in aircraft repairs received $150,000. Betsy has continuously supported education through funding and empowering Christian missions all over the world. The Devos Foundation has donated to numerous Christian-related education groups like Grand Rapids Christian School Association, the Ada Christian School Society, the Rehoboth Christian School Association, and Christian Schools International. The DeVos’ foundation also donated to the performing arts at John F. Kennedy Center, where Betsy DeVos formerly served on the ArtPrize Grand Rapids board. She is the current Secretary of Education in the United States – a preferred candidate of the Trump Administration. She is the daughter of Elsa and Edgar Prince, a wealthy industrialist of Dutch ancestry.
